About Wigan Rider Training

Motorbike school for CBT lessons and DAS Training in Wigan

Who are Wigan Motorcycle  Training?

Working freelance in the training industry I was approached by the management of Wigan Yamaha to start a riding school based at their main dealership.  The chance to own my own independent school, open to all, in a true motorcycle environment was to hard to resist.

My name is Steve Halsall and I am the owner of Wigan Rider Training.

How much experience can Wigan Rider Training offer?

I started riding very early (11years old) on a cornfield! From the moment that 39cc moped moved forward I was hooked on riding and continued riding through my teens when I was, shall we say, big on confidence – short on skill! Hindsight is a wonderful thing but the compulsory training you’re now reading about was desperately needed by me all those years ago – I just didn’t know it then and, of course, it didn’t exist. Since then I have accumulated a wealth of experience and have been riding with advanced class one qualifications for around 30 years.  I have clocked up over 750,000 miles and have loved every mile!

I am a DSA Cardington approved instructor with DIA (Driving Instructor Association) Motorcycle Examiner qualifications.

I’ve undertaken many long trips across Europe, Scandinavia and Africa, both on and off road, and apart from being stung by a few wasps and mosquito’s and attacked by a rather large peacock everything has stayed shiny side up.

I suppose you could say I’m getting the hang of it now and would enjoy the opportunity of passing on what I’ve learnt to you.  I have worked for several different companies teaching 100s of new riders over the years. My approach  is to teach you how to ride a motorbike rather than how to pass a test. There is a wealth of useful information over and above the basic nuts and bolts of the DSA test which is rarely addressed within standard industry courses.

What can you expect from Wigan Rider Training?

I have tried to take the good and discard the bad of what I’ve seen over the years – for instance, the bikes you will ride will be in superb shape and we use only high quality protective gear which will be clean and professional.

The theory and classroom lessons will be lively with presentations, video and question and answer sessions to help you along.

We will use video footage of your actual training if required on some of our courses to illustrate what went well (or not so well!) – this is much more fun than droning away at you from a preset speech or a hastily drawn diagram. We want you to enjoy the classroom part of your course not endure it!

I can tailor your course from a very basic level to a very high level – the aim is always to achieve your successful completion of the CBT or riding test.

Extra information and advice is on tap – you can talk about bikes with me all day.

I can guarantee I will make your course interesting and challenging – it really is more than a job to me.

I’ve tried to give basic information about the courses on this website without being too formal – sometimes arranging a free A2 or DAS assessment ride cuts out a thousand words on the telephone.

Contact us for more information and informal chat to start your journey  - I warn you now riding is addictive!

Here’s what I get up to in my spare time – from dry rivers and mountain trails in North Africa to the Fjords of Norway, fish & chips in Whitby or a simple ride to Southport for a cuppa!  Every journey, no matter how short, is an adventure – motorcycles are freedom and fun – it really is worth the effort.

We hope to see you soon.
